In yogic and Ayurvedic tradition, the human body is often understood through the concept of three doshas—Vata (air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (water/earth). These are symbolic frameworks used to describe functional tendencies in physiology and psychology, especially in relation to balance and imbalance within the system.


From this perspective, breathing practices (pranayama) are considered supportive tools for regulating attention, calming mental activity, and improving mind–body coordination. Breath is closely linked with the nervous system, and conscious breathing is traditionally used to cultivate steadiness and awareness.


Practices such as Kapalabhati and other pranayama techniques are often interpreted as methods that help energize the system, improve alertness, and support emotional regulation. Slow, controlled breathing is also widely associated with calming the mind and reducing psychological agitation.


In this framework, emotional imbalance, stress, and anxiety are often understood as states where mental activity becomes scattered or overstimulated. Breath awareness practices are used to bring attention back to a steady rhythm, which can support clarity, calmness, and more centered decision-making.


However, it is important to understand that these practices are supportive and preventive in nature. They are not substitutes for medical or psychological treatment when needed, but can complement overall well-being when practiced safely and consistently.


Thus, pranayama is best understood as a disciplined method of aligning breath, attention, and awareness to support inner balance and mental clarity.
