Grahan Dosha (Eclipse Affliction) : A View

 

What is Grahan Dosha (eclipse affliction)? If the Sun or the Moon comes together with Rahu or Ketu, it is called Grahan Yoga. Apart from this, if Rahu comes into the Ascendant (Lagna), a Sun eclipse is also formed. If Rahu is placed in the Lagna, then no matter where the Sun is positioned, it does not give auspicious results.

However, there is a rule in astrology: if a planet’s enemy sits directly opposite it, then that planet gives neither bad results nor good results. In the same way, there exists a Gupt Rajyoga (hidden royal yoga) in astrology. This royal yoga is not visible just by looking at the horoscope, yet the person does possess a Rajyoga. For example, some people are not IAS officers themselves, but IAS officers come to study under them.

Similarly, if the Sun and Saturn are placed opposite each other in the birth chart and Rahu comes into the Lagna, a Gupt Rajyoga is formed. In such a chart, Rahu sitting in the Lagna gives auspicious results and destroys the person’s enemies. Such a person has very strong political reach, and with the support of friends, they can accomplish even the biggest tasks with great ease. However, even in such a horoscope, Rahu placed in the Lagna still forms Grahan Yoga.

There are two types of Grahan Dosha: Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan) and Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan). Remedies for a solar eclipse are performed during the middle phase of a solar eclipse, and remedies for a lunar eclipse are performed during a lunar eclipse.

The Moon (Chandra) in astrology represents comforts related to vehicles, wealth and property, and especially the well-being of the mother and grandmother. It also signifies money, home environment, and assets like land and house.

The Moon gives favorable results when placed in the 2nd house, and unfavorable results when placed in the 8th house. The Moon is exalted in Taurus and debilitated in Scorpio. If, in the birth chart, the Moon is conjunct Rahu or Ketu, it does not give शुभ (positive) results. This condition is considered as a “Chandra Grahan” (lunar eclipse) in astrology.  When such a combination exists in the birth chart, the positive results associated with the Moon are significantly weakened or lost. This can lead to troubles or suffering related to the mother, lack of peace in the home environment and issues related to land, property, or house.
