If someone’s Moon is heavily afflicted, their mind can certainly become disturbed, restless or emotionally unsettled. The Moon reflects the mind, emotions and inner psychological responses, so its condition can show how a person experiences emotional turbulence.
But how that person actually behaves in the outside world is another matter. To understand their outward personality, reactions and general way of dealing with life, the Ascendant becomes important. The rising sign shows how the individual expresses themselves, responds to circumstances and presents their nature through their actions.
If you want to go even deeper and understand the quality of the person’s inner energy, the placement of the Sun becomes significant. The Sun can be examined as an indicator of the deeper self, inner identity and the qualities that remain at the core of a person’s being.
For example, suppose a person has a heavily afflicted Moon and therefore experiences considerable mental or emotional turbulence. That does not automatically mean that their inner nature is negative or impure. If their Sun is placed in a sign ruled by Jupiter, for instance, the deeper nature represented by the Sun may still carry qualities such as compassion, generosity, wisdom and kindness.
This is why a horoscope should not be judged from the condition of the Moon alone. The mind can be disturbed while the deeper self remains gentle and compassionate. The Ascendant helps us understand how the person behaves, while the Sun can offer another layer of insight into the nature operating beneath those emotional and psychological fluctuations.
